Sample Essay About Choosing a College

Sample Essay About Choosing a CollegeWhen I was in college, the practice of writing a sample essay about choosing a college went a little something like this: Get a professor to write one. Ask another student to help you write one for another program. That's it! No time to research or write it. Well, guess what?Once your essay is done, you need to submit it to a school counselor who will then review it. If they find that your essay meets their criteria, they'll give you your choice of college. If they find that your essay doesn't meet their criteria, they'll send you a letter asking for more information, and if you still want to attend that college, then you may not have to do an extra writing assignment. The second scenario is what I mean by the second scenario being our actual experience. Instead of writing a standardized essay for college admissions, colleges and universities now require students to write an essay to do two things. First, it's a refresher course for high school and gives them a list of all the top schools. Second, it tests your critical thinking ability by allowing you to select the college you want to attend, instead of providing a default answer.Your essay must be able to stand on its own as well as stand as a preview of your critical thinking abilities. To find out what your sample essay should be like, start with an idea of how many pages it will be, and if you already know what you want, simply read it through and make any modifications you want.Next, choose a topic for your essay, and outline the topics in outline format. Review your outline, edit it and rewrite it if necessary, and then choose a topic and begin writing. Finally, submit your essay to the schools you want to attend, and request feedback from your teachers and academic advisers. Your school should not only give you feedback on your essay, but it should also provide guidance on what kind of essay to prepare in the future.During the admissions process, most applicants forget that the admissions committee wants to hear from more than just their friends and their teachers. We are in a place where more than ever, we need more students, and that means more students applying to the best college for them. Please don't forget this fact when preparing your essay.
